The original character is 攜. Phono-semantic compound (形聲 /形声, OC *ɡʷleː): semantic ⺘ (“hand”) + phonetic 雟 (OC *ɡʷeː). It expresses the idea of carrying something hanging from the hand. The commonly used modern character is based on a popular simplified form.
