Phono-semantic compound (形聲 /形声, OC *tjɯn): semantic 雨 + phonetic 辰 (OC *djɯn). Related to 振 (OC *tjɯns, “to shake”), probably from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *dar ~ d(u/i)r (“to tremble; to shiver”) (Schuessler, 2007).
