Etymology
Pictogram (象形) – a stork. Now written 鸛. Originally the same character as 雈, but 吅 was added as early as the Shang dynasty. Li Xueqin (2012) considers the phonetic component of 雚 (OC *koːns) to be 雈 (OC *ɡoːn), while the Shuowen Jiezi considers it to be 吅 (OC *qʰon, *sqʰon, *sɢoŋs).
