Wasei kango (和(わ)製(せい)漢(かん)語(ご)), orthographically borrowed from Japanese 財(ざい)閥(ばつ) (zaibatsu). The sense of 'chaebol' is an orthographic borrowing from Korean 재벌 (jaebeol).
