Etymology
Phono-semantic compound (形聲 /形声, OC *kluː): semantic 米 (“rice”) + phonetic 羔 (OC *kluː, “lamb”) – food made from rice flour. The phonetic component 羔 ("lamb", hence an animal prone to be cooked) may also have a reference to food and cooking as well.
