Phono-semantic compound (形聲 /形声, OC *l'ɯ, *l'ɯs, *l'is): semantic 水 (“water”) + phonetic 台 (OC *l̥ʰɯː, *l'ɯː, *l'ɯː, *lɯ) — name of a river. Sagart (1999) relates it to 釐 (OC *rɯ, “to govern; to regulate”).
