Etymology
Phono-semantic compound (形聲 /形声, OC *pɯds): semantic 氵 (“water”) + phonetic 弗 (OC *pɯd). Compare Proto-Sino-Tibetan *prut (“to boil”) (STEDT), whence Burmese ပြုတ် (prut, “to boil”).
