Etymology
Uncertain. One theory identifies this graph with the original character for 荒 (huāng) in 四荒 (sìhuāng, “the four remote wildernesses”). ; “shaman; witch” : Thai หมอ (mɔ̌ɔ, “doctor”) < Proto-Tai *ʰmo:ᴬ (“shaman”) is generally assumed to be a Sino-Tibetan loan (Pittayaporn, 2014).
